Queen Victoria (1818--1901), the monarch of England for 63 years, was a devoted widow for 40 of those years. When her beloved husband, Albert, died in 1861, Victoria who drew strength from her many visits to Scotland, would often build small cairns of stones as a memorial to Albert. In this
painting, I imagined the Queen absent-mindedly building a cairn from any suitable objects close at hand.
